You can restore lost iPhone contacts on iOS 8 or iOS 7 by using a third-party application. Your contacts are not lost forever to the ether. IPhone Contacts Restore software and iPhone Contacts Restore for Mac are two of the best programs I have tested. By extracting unreadable iTunes backup file, they respectively restore. I'd like an app that can pull all my SMS, Notes, Contacts with pics, and Call History from an iTunes backup, and merge it to a fresh iOS 9 phone.
I'm having trouble with the iOS 9 upgrade process. Both my old 4S and new 6 go into endless reboot cycles when I try to restore from my last pre-iOS 9 backup.
Yet several third-party apps can see the rebooting phones, and examine the above info. I can't find an app that can save that stuff to a format that can then be loaded back into a phone.
The closest I got was iMobie PhoneTrans Pro, which has merge and clone functions with the option to choose what's moved, and I still get the same phone-never-stops-rebooting with the Apple logo and a progress bar that restarts, moves a bit, but never finishes. Its clone feature required me to click 'trust' on the old phone, but because its interface never appears, I can't do that.
I tried SyncIOS Data Transfer. It can read from the old 4S. It stalls, never finishing its read of my Apps and Books.
It seems there are lots of apps to rescue data. That's not quite what I want. I want it moved cleanly to a new phone.
